Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts awarded a contract to Fenix Hydroment Australasia Pty Ltd for engineering design and cost estimation services for a copper cementation system that was required to remove not less than 90% of the copper from acid mine drainage emitted from the Mt Lyell lease site in Queenstown, Tasmania.
The Stage 1 procurement sought to shortlist suitably qualified engineering firms for potential invitation to Stage 2 of the project.
The Mt Lyell Acid Mine Drainage Remediation Project was funded by the Tasmanian Government and by the Australian Government through the Natural Heritage Trust.
The contract emphasised high-efficiency metal removal (≥90% copper) and was backed by joint state and federal Natural Heritage Trust funding, indicating intergovernmental priority on environmental remediation of historic mining impacts.
