Victoria Police awarded a contract to Ballistic and Mechanical Testing Pty Ltd for out-of-warranty testing of ballistic armour.
The ballistic armour fleet, rolled out in 2019 with a 5-year manufacturer warranty, is nearing the end of its warranty period.
The Uniform and Equipment Branch (UEB) proposed a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) compliant testing process, engaging an accredited Melbourne-based laboratory to validate that the ballistic vests remain fit for purpose.
This contract reflects proactive lifecycle management of critical safety equipment, ensuring continued protection for officers beyond the original warranty period.
