Moira Shire Council awarded a contract to Northern Constructions Group for the construction of Cobram landfill Cell 9 and associated works to achieve EPA appointed auditor sign-off.
The cell is a type 3 landfill with a total area of approximately 60,000 m³ when full and a floor area of approximately 8,000 m².
The works are to achieve compliance with Victorian EPA requirements and sign-off from an appointed Environmental Auditor/EPA upon completion.
The Cobram Landfill is located at 56 Pye Road, approximately 6 km southeast of Cobram, Victoria, and is operated by Moira Shire Council under licence No 15500.
The site comprises eight current and two former landfill cells, with nine groundwater monitoring bores for up-gradient and down-gradient monitoring.
The site is in a remote rural setting with the nearest residential properties approximately 600 m to the east and south.
Surrounding land uses include agriculture (primarily orchards) to the west, south, and east, a motocross track to the immediate west, and cleared scrubby grassland to the north leased to a model airplane club.
The nearest surface water bodies are a creek approximately 500 m north and the Murray River approximately 1 km north and east.
