Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment awarded a contract to Geoffrey James Lea (Walking Track Services) for construction of four separable portions of the Three Capes Track on the Tasman Peninsula.
The works covered four track lengths of 4.8 km, 3.8 km, 2.7 km and 2.9 km and included clearing the track corridor, ground preparation, drainage, and subsurface and surface works.
The contract excluded huts and related infrastructure such as toilets and helipads, and further portions of the track were to be tendered separately.
The contract was awarded to a specialist walking-track contractor, highlighting reliance on niche track-construction firms for corridor clearing, drainage and surfacing work on multi-day trail projects.
