The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade awarded a contract to ACIL Allen Pty Limited for a consultancy to examine and report on existing financial assurance frameworks for the onshore petroleum industry in Australia and internationally, and to recommend suitable options for a framework addressing recommendations 14.13 and 14.14 of the Independent Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing in the Northern Territory.
The consultant also considered options for financial assurance frameworks under the Energy Pipelines Act 1981, the Petroleum (Submerged) Lands Act 1981, and the Geothermal Energy Act 2009.
