Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Schindler Lifts Australia Pty Ltd for the design, supply and installation of five replacement vertical transport assets (four passenger lifts and one service lift) at the Perth Transport Centre building.
The works followed the PTA's December 2021 Project Development Plan and addressed life-expired, obsolete components with limited spare parts.
The replacement project was intended to increase reliability, improve safety, introduce current technology, future-proof the building and reduce corrective maintenance.
Contract obligations required sequential completion of lifts with no more than one passenger lift out of service at any time, site investigation to confirm interface noncompliances, removal and disposal of existing lift cars and redundant equipment, and design to issue-for-construction standards incorporating structural, mechanical, communications, operational technology, low-voltage, fire safety/detection/protection and vertical transport elements.
Works were to comply with the Engineering Management for Projects and the Project Requirements Specification, were subject to Building, Demolition and Occupancy Permits and Plant Registration, and included construction, testing and commissioning in line with contractual requirements.
The procurement was structured as a Design and Construct (AS4902) contract with separable portions.
The award to a specialist elevator supplier reflected the technical and regulatory complexity of vertical-transport replacement projects—these contracts typically require integrated design-and-construct capability and coordination across structural, mechanical, electrical and fire systems, plus management of statutory permits.
