Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment awarded a contract to Handa training solutions Pty Ltd for the development of Emergency Management Plans for the Freycinet Peninsula.

The contractor completed a risk analysis for the Peninsula; produced a Sub-Municipal Emergency Management Plan (sub-MEMP) for the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council based on the Tasmanian Emergency Management plan template and addressing the needs of emergency management authorities (TFS, SES, GSBC, Tas Police) for PPRR activities not covered in other EMPs; prepared an Emergency Management Plan for the Peninsula aligned with Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) responsibilities and manpower capabilities and included a skills and training needs analysis for PWS staff at the Freycinet Field Centre as part of the EMP; provided broad strategies to support PWS in Prevention & Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery and reviewed these against current capability and identified gaps; documented the plans to enable review under the Emergency Management Act (2006) and the development of other area and organisational plans; and provided the basis for an area emergency exercise planned for late 2010.
