Jones Lang LaSalle awarded a contract to Interlec Pty Ltd (Interlec) for the consolidation and upgrade of the fragmented electrical supply systems serving the Light Industrial Area (LIA) on West Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
The LIA was a multi-purpose industrial complex of approximately 15,000 sqm comprising sheds, sea containers, workshop spaces, office facilities and storage areas, and was managed by JLL on behalf of the Western Australian Government Department of Housing and Works (DHW).
The awarded works responded to findings from comprehensive ground penetrating radar scanning conducted in April 2025 that identified numerous uncoordinated underground electrical conduits, distribution boards and transformers.
The contract covered delivery of the electrical infrastructure consolidation and upgrade works in a remote island location to address operational inefficiencies, elevated maintenance costs and safety concerns caused by the existing fragmented network, in accordance with the Statement of Requirements and Specification set out in Section 2 of the RFT.
Contracts of this nature typically favored electrical contractors with proven experience consolidating legacy distribution networks and managing remote-island logistics; the award addressed identified safety, maintenance and operational inefficiencies revealed by the GPR study.
