Department of Logistics and Infrastructure awarded a contract to Amrock Group Pty Ltd for reinstating and sealing the existing road shoulders on the Kakadu Highway between Chainage 5.7 km and 11.4 km in the Darwin Region, intended to reduce maintenance and improve road safety.
The scope included reforming and re-compacting shoulders approximately 1 m wide to achieve an 8 m carriageway using reclaimed and top-up material; providing a 150 mm top-up with Type 2/3 gravel; ripping and re-compacting to 95% MMDD; and grading shoulders to match the existing road crossfall on both sides.
Works also included importing Type 2 gravel for blending with suitable local material from the nominated gravel pit, regrading disturbed batters and drains, and forming and pouring concrete shoulders and batter protection at culvert crossings.
The specification combined defined compaction and thickness standards with gravel blending and culvert concrete works, reflecting a tightly scoped shoulder and drainage rehabilitation package over a clearly bounded chainage.
