Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts awarded a contract to AEC Group Limited for analysis and investigations to underpin concepts for the Macquarie Point railyards site.
The scope included market and demand analysis and a forecast for the property sector in the greater Hobart area; land use planning assessment and review for each concept with recommendations on the planning framework and controls needed to support the concepts and ensure compatibility with surrounding land uses; social impact assessment for each concept to examine social benefits and impacts and recommend measures to maximise social benefits; and climate change assessment for each concept, including review of the physical, economic and infrastructure limitations that climate change may represent.
The brief combined economic, planning, social and climate assessments, indicating a need for multidisciplinary consultancy capability (urban economics, planning and environmental assessment) in evaluating large urban redevelopment options.
