About
(inactive) Department of Parks and Wildlife awarded a contract to Jenkins earthmoving and transport (Rod West Jenkins) for the redevelopment of the Bell Gorge day-use site and car park.
The project included constructing new car parking with 43 standard car and 10 long vehicle bays, associated two-way roads, pedestrian paths and gathering areas, excavating for underground toilet tanks and leach drains, supplying and installing wheel stops and culvert pipe, installing bollards and rock vehicle barriers, carrying out rehabilitation earthworks, managing visitors and tourist traffic through a Traffic Management Plan, constructing a temporary car park, and demarcating a gorge access trail if required.
The contract required a 15 to 25% indigenous employment outcome for the duration of the project.
This contract reflects a trend in Western Australian park infrastructure projects to include indigenous employment targets, often achieved through partnerships with local Aboriginal businesses.
