About
Transport for NSW (Legacy Transport Infrastructure Projects) awarded a contract to Momentum Trains Pty Ltd for the Regional Rail Fleet Project.
The contract covers financing, design, construction, and maintenance of a new fleet of 117 carriages forming 10 regional intercity trains, 9 short regional trains, and 10 long regional trains.
It also includes design, build, maintenance, and operation of a new train maintenance facility in Dubbo, as well as upgrading, operating, and maintaining the Sydenham Maintenance Centre.
The total budget is $2.8 billion, comprising $1.26 billion in capital costs and recurrent maintenance costs for the first 15 years.
The Project Deed was entered on 14 February 2019 and became effective on 15 February 2019.
This large-scale public-private partnership highlights the government's strategy to leverage private financing and expertise for major rail infrastructure, with a focus on regional economic development through the Dubbo facility.
