Department of Lands, Planning and Environment awarded a contract to Specular Pty Ltd for the supply, delivery and installation of a high-resolution technical imaging system at the Northern Territory Herbarium facility in Palmerston, NT.

The NT Herbarium held a scientific and cultural collection of approximately 300,000 individual items and its existing medium-format technical digitisation system had reached its effective end of life.

The contract covered provision of a high-resolution, medium-format reprographic image capture device (100 megapixel+), matched and calibrated (alignment and parallelism) lens apparatus with auto-focus capability, a professional-grade photographic lighting system with remote triggers, colour calibration/reference targets, and a professional-grade imaging workstation with a 4K widescreen display and appropriate storage capacity to handle large file sizes and volumes.

The procurement also sought options for cost recovery through trade-in of the existing legacy system, and the contract included operationalisation and ongoing support of the system during the establishment phase.
