About
Department of Premier and Cabinet awarded a contract to Telstra Corporation Limited for the supply of public network access and carriage services.
The contract covered delivery of services via POTS, ISDN and IP-based technologies and was intended to secure arrangements from 27 March 2012 when existing arrangements expired.
The original RFT allowed the Government to appoint one or more suppliers and did not require suppliers to offer all listed access technologies.
Major national carriers with extensive fixed-line and IP infrastructure commonly win government carriage contracts; the RFT’s allowance for multiple suppliers indicated an emphasis on continuity of service and supplier diversity.
