The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is seeking to purchase surface water rights from holders in the New South Wales Border Rivers catchment, inviting eligible rights holders to submit tenders to sell whole or part of their water rights to the Australian Government. The Department aims to acquire an estimated 3.68 GL/year long term diversion limit equivalence (LTDLE) of surface water to help bridge the gap to the Sustainable Diversion Limits under the Murray–Darling Basin Plan 2012. This is an open, long-duration tender with a rolling evaluation process: Tender Responses can be submitted at any time during the Tender Window and will be assessed as received; the Department will consider responses until 11:00 am local time in the Australian Capital Territory on Thursday 11 March 2027 unless it stops earlier (for example if the required volumetric targets are met), with any early closure notified via AusTender and the Department website.
