GRDC is seeking a delivery partner to design and deliver coordinated field trials, extension and industry development to establish pigeon pea as a reliable, drought‑tolerant summer pulse across northern New South Wales and Queensland. The program will validate tailored agronomic practices across the GRDC sub-regions (NE NSW, NW NSW, SE QLD, SW QLD and Central QLD), assess yield potential, grain quality, pest and disease thresholds, and farming‑system impacts, and deliver targeted extension and adoption activities between 2027 and 2030. It will also generate data and samples by June 2030 to support market development, future pre-breeding priorities and minor‑use permit applications (including desiccation and insect and weed management), working closely with GRDC’s CP&I team. The investment aims to give growers in the target region of south‑west and central Queensland the confidence to profitably plant and manage pigeon pea across 30,000 ha by 30 September 2030.
