About
Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts awarded a contract to Johnson Pilton Walker Pty Ltd and Terroir for the masterplan design of the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery (TMAG) redevelopment.
The contract covered appointment as a multidisciplinary masterplan design team in the first stage of a two-stage procurement, engaging heritage, urban planning and design consultant specialists to provide site, facility and exhibition planning expertise.
The masterplan work set out the conceptual design and planning approach for the redevelopment of the entire TMAG waterfront site in Hobart, addressing the urban context, important heritage buildings and archaeological features and providing the framework for contemporary design and an enhanced gallery and museum experience.
The award reflected selection of a multidisciplinary heritage and urban-design team to deliver a site-wide conceptual masterplan, an approach commonly used to integrate heritage, archaeology and urban waterfront considerations into major cultural infrastructure projects.
