Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts awarded a contract to francis - Jones Morehen Thorp for architectural and design services for the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery redevelopment.
The contract covered leading a multidisciplinary architect-led design team to provide a full range of museum facility design expertise, including architectural, interior and landscape design together with heritage, archaeology and Environmental Sustainable Design specialisations.
The appointment followed a two-stage procurement process, beginning with an Expression of Interest and proceeding to invitation to tender, and included undertaking the conceptual design for the overall TMAG redevelopment followed by design development, documentation and administration of the Stage 1 works.
The contract specified that the project scope could change pending allocation of additional funding and might be extended to include further stages or to cover the design, development documentation and construction of the full masterplanned redevelopment.
The two-stage procurement and emphasis on heritage, archaeology and ESD demonstrated a focus on appointing a multidisciplinary architectural team with conservation and museum-design experience, a common requirement for complex cultural infrastructure projects.
