The contract implemented the South Australian Government's $40 million commitment from the 2023–24 State Budget to upgrade the roundabout at the intersection of Adelaide Road, Alexandrina Road, Wellington Road and Flaxley Road in Mount Barker.
The works upgraded the existing dual‑lane roundabout with single‑lane approaches to a larger dual‑lane roundabout with dual‑lane approaches on all legs, delivered shared use paths and improved pedestrian facilities on approaches, and provided measures to improve traffic capacity, safety and traffic flow to support housing growth and better access to local schools and the new Mount Barker Hospital.
The award translated an explicit 2023–24 budget allocation into a targeted arterial road upgrade to increase capacity and pedestrian safety in a growth corridor, consistent with state procurement priorities for major civil roadworks.
