About
Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to WSP Australia Pty Ltd for the Passenger Rail Transport Planning project to establish a long-term strategic program for the growth of Perth’s metropolitan passenger network.
The work was intended to inform positions on future public transport corridors and to identify priorities for further investigation, including corridor reservation in region schemes to reduce risk, capital cost and uncertainty in long-term rail expansion projects.
The contractor explored a range of possible transport and land use futures across the Perth and Peel metropolitan area, examined alternative scenarios in the context of the past 30 years of public transport development and related land use and social outcomes, and carried out strategic demand modelling of the reference case and options.
The PTA collaborated by providing internal resources in railway/track engineering, environmental planning and land use planning, with strategic demand modelling support identified from the DoT STEM team.
The assignment reflected a need for multidisciplinary consultancies with integrated transport planning, engineering and modelling capability to support corridor reservation and long-term rail expansion decision-making.
