About
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions awarded a contract to ANU Enterprise Pty Limited for an independent review of the Sandalwood Order.
The work was conducted in accordance with the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Sandalwood Biodiversity Management Programme to review and potentially revise the lawful sandalwood take quantity that the Minister would use to issue a replacement for the Sandalwood (Limitation on Removal of Sandalwood) Order (No.
2) 2015 to apply from 2027.
A panel of independent reviewers was appointed to review the methodology, process and a draft report to inform the setting of the new Sandalwood Order.
The review work was undertaken largely remotely and at periodic intervals to meet project milestones.
The contract engaged an independent academic enterprise to review methodology and draft reporting, reflecting use of external expert panels to provide technical evidence for regulatory order-setting under the Biodiversity Conservation Act.
