Department of Logistics and Infrastructure awarded a contract to SCP Consulting Northern Region Pty Ltd for investigations and development of detailed and concept designs and an engineering survey for road safety improvements on the Stuart Highway at the Armidale Street, Charles Street and Westralia Street intersections.
The consultant investigated and developed detailed design for the left turn at the Stuart Highway / Armidale Street intersection; produced a concept design for a traffic island in the refuge at the Stuart Highway / Charles Street intersection; designed the removal of the outbound third lane on the Stuart Highway and prepared detailed designs for traffic islands and installation of a short pedestrian audio tactile button at the Stuart Highway / Westralia Street intersection; specified and designed installation of traffic signals (left turn arrow) to control left-turning traffic from the Stuart Highway into Westralia Street; and conducted an engineering survey from the Stuart Highway / Armidale Street intersection to the Stuart Highway / Westralia Street intersection.
The contract combined concept and detailed design, traffic-signal specification and surveying for three adjacent intersections, reflecting a targeted, multidisciplinary road-safety upgrade that required traffic engineering, signal design and surveying capabilities.
