Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts awarded a contract to Hydro Tasmania Consulting for monitoring of river flow, water quality and collection of water samples from the Savage River and its tributaries as part of the Savage River Rehabilitation Project.
The contract covered a three-year period commencing in November 2008 and included maintenance of probes and data-logging equipment and retrieval of data.
The SRRP addressed remediation of historical acid drainage sources on the Savage River Mine site and was a cooperative project between the Department and Australian Bulk Minerals.
The contract combined field monitoring, equipment maintenance and data retrieval over a multi-year term, reflecting an emphasis on sustained environmental monitoring to support mine-site remediation and formalised collaboration between the government and the mine operator.
