Department of Health awarded a contract to Launceston Central Medical Centre for operation of the Urgent Care Clinic on Wellington Street in Launceston.
The award implemented the Commonwealth initiative to establish 50 Urgent Care Clinics nationally and one of three UCCs in Tasmania (one in the southern, northern and north west regions).
The clinic was intended to deliver low-acuity urgent care, including assessment and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, at no out-of-pocket cost to patients; to operate extended hours seven days a week; and to have timely access to necessary equipment, including imaging facilities, for diagnosis and treatment.
The Department had invited Expressions of Interest from general practices to operate UCCs in Tasmania.
