About

Department for Energy and Mining awarded a contract to GPA Engineering Pty Ltd for engineering design services as the Owner's Engineer for the RAES First Nations Community Microgrids Project to transition the remote Aboriginal communities of Pipalyatjara, Yalata and Oak Valley from diesel-generated electricity to photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

GPA Engineering developed comprehensive engineering designs including site layout, earthing grid design, protection review and configuration files, SCADA requirements and integration into the RAES SCADA system, low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) integration, and the creation of standard designs, such as switchboards, that could be standardised for use at future sites.

The project aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the reliability and resilience of electricity supply in the three remote communities.
