Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to GHD Pty Ltd for the provision of appropriately experienced and qualified personnel to join the PTA's engineering team to support low voltage electrical services upgrading works for the High-Capacity Signalling (HCS) and Radio Systems Replacement (RSR) projects at various locations within the Perth metropolitan area.
The HCS Project replaced the existing Transperth rail network signalling and control system with a radio-based, in-cab Automatic Train Control (ATC) system to enable increased service frequencies; PTA delivered the HCS Project under an Alliance contract and awarded delivery to the Alstom-DTI Alliance on 18 July 2024.
The RSR project delivered a Digital Radio System (DRS) based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in the 1800 MHz band to replace the ageing Analogue Radio System (ARS) operating in the 400 MHz band, and the DRS served as the primary communications bearer for the onboard ATC system.
The contract engaged an engineering consultancy to supply specialist low-voltage electrical personnel, reflecting the technical requirement to integrate power infrastructure with LTE-based communications and in-cab ATC signalling during rail modernisation works.
