Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Rail Systems Australia (MGB Titan Systems Pty Ltd) for signalling project engineering services for the new Midland Station (Cale Street) (MSCS) project.
The contract required a qualified and registered Signalling Project Engineer to perform services in accordance with the PTA Engineering Management for Projects (EM4P) process.
The MSCS scope, as described by the agency, included relocating Midland Station to the east of its existing location and demolition of the existing station building; delivery of a brand-new station facility to meet future demand; construction of a new 12-stand bus interchange and a multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays at the former station site; extension of Cale Street south to Yelverton Drive to provide a level crossing; closure of the Helena Street level crossing to create new public spaces and safe connections between the bus interchange and station; construction of a 24/7 publicly accessible pedestrian overpass to connect the north and south sides of the rail corridor and provide platform access; provision of more than 1 km of shared path along the northern side of the rail corridor connecting to the existing cycle network at Morrison Road and Lloyd Street; and installation of 1.7 km of new dual track connecting into the new Bellevue Depot.
The project documentation noted expected daily boardings of about 3,300 at commencement of passenger services, increasing to about 3,700 by 2031.
The award to Rail Systems Australia aligned with the project's requirement for a registered signalling engineer and compliance with PTA's EM4P governance, highlighting the role of specialist rail signalling firms in major station relocations and associated track and interface works.
