The Quod, erected between 1863 and 1864 as the island’s main prison building and later adapted as a State Hostel and part of commercial accommodation, had been excised from the commercial lease and returned to RIA management in 2018; it no longer served as accommodation and was deteriorating.

The contract covered conservation works intended to conserve the building fabric of this colonial-era structure.
