About
Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Schneider Electric Pty Ltd (Schneider Electric (Australia) Pty Ltd) for the modernisation and replacement of obsolete Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) across 11 metropolitan rail locations as Packages 1 & 2 of a wider program to replace 59 PLCs.
The contract covered detailed design activities for each package; procurement and build of the PLC hardware and control panels; removal of legacy PLCs and installation of the new PLC solutions at site; commissioning into service; and handover to the PTA Operations Team.
The eleven sites included Bull Creek Station, Karnupu Comms Room, Kwinana Station, Mundarah Station, Cockburn Central Station, Anketell tunnel Comms Room, Parklands tunnel Comms Room, Stakehill Comms Room, Warnbro Station, Wellard Station and Lakelands SER.
Deliverables were required to be common across locations with site-specific tailoring and included supply of new control panels in accordance with PTA function specification 8880-700-642.
Projects of this type combined hardware supply, engineering design and commissioning, so they were suited to large industrial control systems vendors with integrated OT capabilities; awarding to Schneider Electric aligned with that capability profile.
