Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Enviro Infrastructure (Enviro Infrastructure Pty Ltd) for pier strengthening and associated minor repairs to the Stokely over Canning Rail Bridge on the Armadale line.
The works supported the PTA Network and Infrastructure Civil Branch's management of civil infrastructure and responded to engineering assessments of the five-span (18.3 m spans) bridge located at Chainage 18.067 km, constructed circa 1985.
The bridge comprised steel girders supported by concrete piers founded by pile caps and piles across four sets of bridge piers.
Strengthening was required to satisfy the 200LA rail design load requirement under the PTA Narrow Gauge code of practice; a 2023 assessment determined that a concrete collar was required at each pier.
The contract scope comprised installation of concrete collars with chemical-anchored starter bars to the four piers (two columns per pier, totalling eight concrete pier column strengthenings) and minor bridge repairs to be completed in synergy with the strengthening works.
The award addressed compliance with PTA's 200LA load standard for an aging rail bridge, highlighting the agency's asset-maintenance focus; projects of this nature typically require contractors experienced in in‑situ concrete collaring, chemical anchoring and pile-founded pier repairs.
