View Live TendersSupplied Trained Hunting Dogs and Handler Training for Macquarie Island Eradication
About
Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts awarded a contract to Pet Resorts Australia for the supply of fully trained hunting dogs and the training of personnel to support the eradication of rabbits and rodents from Macquarie Island Nature Reserve.
The project, led by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service in conjunction with the Australian Government, targeted intensive rabbit hunting on Macquarie Island, located 1,500 kilometres southeast of Tasmania.
The dogs were required to be trained to specific standards addressing both target and non-target species, and the contract included provision of training for personnel to handle the dogs on Macquarie Island.
Contracts of this type emphasized specialized animal‑training capability and the ability to deliver handler training and remote operational logistics, reflecting the practical challenges of invasive‑species eradication on a remote island.
