Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to G M Millane & Co (Bradshar Nominees Pty Ltd t/as) for the supply and delivery of modified Grammer 90.6 SHORT railcar driver seats.
Following the introduction of the first C‑Series trains into passenger service in April 2024, the PTA had monitored feedback from Railcar Drivers and other stakeholders and conducted a three‑month trial of a modified Grammer 90.6 SHORT seat, selected for its proven performance on the A‑Series fleet; the alternative seat used on the B‑Series fleet was an older Grammer model that had been discontinued.
The contract replaced existing seats on the C‑Series and Australind trains, required the supplier to procure the Grammer 90.6 SHORT model exclusively (alternative seat models were not accepted) and to complete specified modifications prior to delivery to the PTA’s Bellevue Depot for installation by the railcar manufacturer, Alstom.
Requiring a single approved model (Grammer 90.6 SHORT) and specified pre‑delivery modifications tended to favour suppliers able to source that model and perform the modifications; the award indicated the PTA prioritised ergonomic performance and fleet commonality.
