The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) is seeking external legal service providers to supplement internal capacity by delivering specialist child protection legal services across New South Wales. The engagement covers two sub-areas: Children's Court advocacy to provide legal representation for DCJ in Children's Court proceedings to meet obligations under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (NSW), and advice and claims services to review documentation and advise on legal entitlements for children and young people in out-of-home care, including lodgement of Victims Support Scheme claims where instructed. The panel aims to streamline access to specialised legal services, ensure quality legal representation, support efforts to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal children in out-of-home care, and help vulnerable children and young people access legal entitlements.
