About

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation awarded a contract to Ford Civil Pty Ltd for the implementation of geo membrane capping over a series of waste disposal trenches containing hazardous wastes historically buried at the Little Forest site.

The capping is designed to reduce rainfall infiltration, thereby limiting the migration of hazardous particles through underlying groundwater and mitigating the 'overflowing bathtub' effect observed during heavy rainfall.

The interim solution has a 10 to 15-year design life and is maintainable to allow continued monitoring and research activities at the site.
