Department for Infrastructure and Transport awarded a contract to Civil & Allied Technical Construction Pty Ltd (Trading as CATCON) for the construction of overtaking lanes on Main South Road between Normanville and Cape Jervis under Contract 24C186.

The contract covered the 31 kilometre stretch of carriageway with a posted speed of 100 km/h outside of townships, a key route connecting heavy vehicles, commuters and tourists and providing connectivity to the Kangaroo Island ferry terminal at Cape Jervis.

The project addressed limited overtaking opportunities caused by curved and undulating road geometry, which had resulted in delays and unsafe driver behaviour, and provided for the construction of three overtaking lanes located as follows: a northbound overtaking lane between Normanville and Second Valley; a southbound overtaking lane between Second Valley and Delamere; and a northbound overtaking lane between Delamere and Cape Jervis.
