Worley was required to build a numerical multibody-dynamics model of the track and B-Series 3-car set to calculate derailment measures for a range of relevant vehicle and track conditions; compare predicted derailment measures against established engineering safety limits to determine utilisation factors (ratio of predicted measure to allowable limit); perform sensitivity analyses on key model inputs where needed; and prepare a concise technical report summarising the quantitative estimate of derailment likelihood at the identified critical locations to inform consideration of derailment containment.
The award assigned specialised rail-dynamics simulation, standards comparison and sensitivity-analysis tasks to an engineering consultancy, indicating PTA prioritised quantitative multibody simulation expertise to assess derailment risk at elevated track sections.
