Engaged South Australian Centre for Economic Studies to Conduct Social and Economic Impact Study into Gambling in Tasmania

About

Department of Treasury and Finance awarded a contract to South Australian Centre for Economic Studies for a Social and Economic Impact Study into Gambling in Tasmania.

The study was required pursuant to the provisions of the Gaming Control Act 1993 and served as the first iteration of a longitudinal study into gambling impacts in Tasmania.

The scope included establishing a framework and methodology to enable repeatable, longitudinal research; quantifying and assessing the broad social impacts of gambling in Tasmania; analysing the economic impacts of gambling and quantifying financial impacts on State and local government; assessing effects on tourism, recreation, economic development and employment; and identifying the incidence of problem gambling in Tasmania and analysing it in comparison with other States and Territories.

Insight
