About
Department of Premier and Cabinet awarded a contract to University of Tasmania for research into barriers to accessing gambling support in lower socio-economic and regional areas.
The project was to provide a foundation for evidence-informed policy, enable enhanced service delivery, and guide targeted communication strategies for gambling support services in Tasmania.
The research scope included identifying key barriers preventing people in lower socio-economic and rural areas from accessing gambling harm support; informing policy recommendations to improve accessibility and effectiveness of gambling support services; developing targeted outreach strategies and community education programs and campaigns tailored to the unique challenges of disadvantaged communities; and enhancing interventions for gambling harm reduction.
The award to a local university reflected the procurement of academic research capacity to generate evidence for policy and service design addressing gambling harm in disadvantaged and regional populations.
