About
North Metropolitan Health Service awarded a contract to Carroll Energy (LA Carroll Group Pty Ltd) for installation of variable speed drives (VSDs) and associated cable and tray upgrades for the AC6 air handling unit in G Block.
The scope included placement of VSDs outside the AC6 AHU enclosure adjacent to the AC3 return air fan on two new custom Unistrut stands secured to the concrete floor; engineering calculations for selected cables to meet relevant standards; installation of new fire‑rated power cabling from the Mechanical Services Supply Board to the new AC6 Motor 1 and AC6 Motor 2 VSDs; installation of new fire‑rated cable on the existing tray above the MCC4 switchboard; installation of a new 50 m tray run from the MCC4 cable tray to the new AC6 VSD stands; termination of VSD supply cables at the switchboard to the existing circuit breaker; installation of BMS cabling through the module to the new VSDs on the opposite side of the module to the BMS and removal of redundant power and control cabling from the AHU; installation of new fire‑rated control cables to provide correct start/stop control per manufacturer specifications; installation of new braided screened VSD cables from the new Schneider VSDs to existing fan motors 1 and 2 in the AHU fan chambers; installation of speed control and fire mode control cabling from the AC6 BMS and fire panels to the new VSDs with mechanical protection to satisfy AS/NZS 3013; termination of all cabling; and removal of 11 existing Piro cables from the AHU enclosure along with removal of existing materials and VSDs.
The work combined VSD installation, fire‑rated cabling and BMS integration with explicit AS/NZS 3013 compliance; contracts of this type typically favour specialist electrical/HVAC contractors with experience in hospital mechanical services and regulatory compliance.
