The Sutherland Street Rail Bridge (Ellipse equipment number: F003.450/SC/RAB) was located over Sutherland Street in West Perth, was approximately 112 years old, and comprised a single-span ballasted dual narrow-gauge track with riveted main girders, longitudinal stringers, transverse cross-bracing and masonry abutments.
GHD‑Aurecon Joint Venture had been engaged since 2021 to 2024 to carry out inspections, load-rating assessments with rail vehicle information and strain-gauge assessments; the contract provided for ongoing monitoring and regular inspections until bridge replacement works planned in FY26/27 to maintain safe rail operations.
The award extended an existing multi-year engagement with GHD‑Aurecon Joint Venture, reflecting continuity in using a specialist rail-bridge engineering team for assessment, load-rating and monitoring of a century-old asset pending planned replacement.
