Department for Education awarded a contract to Cleanaway Operations Pty Ltd for waste management services across all departmental school sites located on Minister for Education land.

The contract was to be managed centrally by the Department and was scheduled to commence on 1 July 2022 for an initial term of five years with options to extend for three years plus two years at the Minister's discretion.

The scope of the award covered centralising waste management service contracts across all DfE sites, simplifying contract administration and management, and delivering a consistent standard of waste services.

Key requirements included appointing a contractor with the capability, capacity and experience to safely provide waste management at all DfE sites, ensuring all on-site waste practices and services met relevant legislative and compliance requirements, reducing waste generation and maximising resource recovery through consistent recycling programs, and establishing accurate reporting of waste volumes and diversion outcomes to assist sites in transitioning toward circular economy practices.
