Department of Health (Royal Street) awarded a contract to Diabetes WA for a Western Australian government contribution toward co-payments for needles and syringes supplied under the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
Diabetes WA administered the NDSS in WA and acted as the WA Agent for the national NDSS contract between the Australian Government and Diabetes Australia through an agreement between Diabetes Australia and Diabetes WA.
Needle and syringe products supplied to approved NDSS registrants were partly funded by the Australian Government via the NDSS, and the grant was intended to cover the balance (up to half) of the cost of needles and syringes provided to Scheme-approved NDSS registrants through NDSS Access Points in WA.
Diabetes WA, as the designated WA agent for the NDSS, was the contract recipient to channel state funding that reduced out-of-pocket costs for registrants; the arrangement exemplified state–national collaboration and delivery of subsidised consumables via established NDSS Access Points.
