Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Finlay Group Construction Pty Ltd for remediation works on the Warwick Station footbridge.
The cable-stayed footbridge spanned the southbound Mitchell Freeway and connected the bus exchange, Warwick rail station and passenger carpark; it comprised a continuous two-span steel girder deck with a main span of 32.5 metres, a secondary span of 16.25 metres (48.75 metres total) and a central pier rising to approximately 16 metres.
The remediation scope addressed improperly installed steel beam bearings on the western support identified by BG&E in 2022 and confirmed by Jacobs in 2023, and comprised replacement of the heavily cracked precast concrete support beam, replacement of the bearings supporting the footbridge, and minor concrete repairs to adjacent beams, delivered in accordance with a remediation work plan and a high-level construction staging plan developed by the design consultant.
The award followed prior engineering investigations and design confirmation, indicating remediation work driven by identified structural defects and requiring a contractor experienced in staged repairs over live freeway and rail corridors and coordination with consulting engineers and the transport authority.
