Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions awarded a contract to Elite Fabrication (EFabrication) for the retrofit of stainless steel mesh infill on the Mangrove Cove Boardwalk.
The boardwalk, which had opened to the public in July 2025 as a 190-metre accessible walkway through the State’s southernmost stand of white mangroves on the Leschenault Inlet within the Kalgulup Regional Park network, previously had only the first two sections adjacent to the abutment fitted with X-TEND stainless steel mesh balustrade infill.
The remaining barrier sections comprised approximately 179.4 linear metres of balustrading with kick rails only.
The works comprised the installation of approximately 365 linear metres of 8 mm Grade 316 stainless steel mesh-support rods fixed at nominal 300 mm centres to form the lacing rail for extended stainless steel mesh balustrade consistent with existing meshed sections; removal of existing kick rails; extension of the existing balustrade system; relocation of an existing turn-down barrier section; and construction of a self-closing access gate in accordance with the contract drawings (Attachment A and Figure 1).
The scope included measurement, preparation of shop drawings, approvals, fabrication, installation, and documentation, and required completion by 25 November 2026.
