About
Department of Logistics and Infrastructure awarded a contract to NT Shade and Canvas Pty Ltd for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of playgrounds and a solid shade structure at Barunga School, approximately 83 km east of Katherine.
The scope included designing and constructing a new solid shade structure over the new playground; replacement of existing soft-fall sand; removal of the existing playground and installation of a new playground with rubber soft-fall; and removal and replacement of rubber soft-fall and a bike track.
The contractor was required to obtain a Building Permit before commencing onsite work and an Occupancy Certificate prior to handover, engage a Certified Playground Inspector and provide the relevant inspection reports, and ensure all soft-fall surfaces were tested in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards.
All certificates, manuals, test results, inspection reports and permits were required to be provided to the superintendent prior to handover.
The contract placed strong emphasis on regulatory compliance and certified inspections (building permits, occupancy certification, certified playground inspection and Australian Standards testing), indicating projects of this type prioritized documented safety compliance and contractors with experience in playground surfacing and shade-structure construction.
