About
Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd for review of design and construction documents and provision of technical input as an Earthing and Bonding Project Engineer for the Low Voltage Critical Supply (LVCS) Project.
The contract included provision for the same earthing and bonding engineering services to be made available for the Nowergup Depot Railcar Modification Shed (NDRMS) Project, with options allowed for that engagement if required.
The LVCS Project was intended to rectify or renew low-voltage equipment and update asset documentation to ensure stable electricity supplies to signalling, train control, traction power and communications systems across the metropolitan rail network.
The scope of the current phase covered design and construction upgrades to electrical power supplies in Standalone Equipment Rooms (SERs) at Gosnells, Perth Yard West, East Perth, Leederville, Bassendean, Woodbridge and Daglish.
The PTA intended to engage contractors to design and construct SERs at Gosnells and Perth Yard West (for which design documentation had previously been prepared) and to undertake detailed design for the remaining sites prior to construction.
Timing of reviews and technical input was dependent on contractors’ design and construction programmes, and the LVCS Project was anticipated to continue for the next three years.
The Panel Member/Contractor was required to provide electrical engineering (earthing and bonding) personnel.
The award demonstrated the PTA's use of specialist electrical engineering firms for rail LV earthing and bonding requirements and the use of a panel approach to provide technical review capacity for phased SER design and construction across multiple metropolitan sites.
