PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA awarded a contract to HEALTHLINK GROUP PTY LIMITED (Healthlink) for an electronic delivery solution to transmit pathology results to parties external to the WA Health Department.
The procurement addressed replacement of PathWest Direct (PWD), an in‑house solution first implemented in the early 2000s that had received minor upgrades but was unable to meet current client demands and expectations.
The contract covered delivery of a solution capable of supporting approximately 1,400 varied recipients, including general practitioners, healthcare specialists, private pathology providers, government agencies (such as the Department of Justice), private mining companies, and clinical trial sponsors.
The Customer had expressed a preference for the solution to be delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS) hosted by the Contractor; where SaaS hosting was not possible, the Customer considered hosting on WA Health managed infrastructure and platforms within the internal Department of Health network.
The procurement reflected needs for increased flexibility such as support for cloud‑based GP systems and a portal for viewing results on mobile devices.
The award reflected PathWest’s requirement for a vendor able to provide a SaaS-capable, interoperable results delivery platform with mobile and cloud GP system integration to serve a large, diverse external recipient base (~1,400 users).
