The District Council of Yankalilla is seeking a contractor for demolition of the existing single-span timber bridge on Blacker Road at Torrens Vale and construction of a new single-span reinforced concrete bridge where the road crosses the Yankalilla River. The project includes reinforced concrete abutments on bored pile foundations, approach roadworks, bridge barriers, warning signage, scour protection and all associated ancillary works, and is designed to safely accommodate unrestricted heavy vehicle loads including agricultural freight. The design retains the existing road alignment and river hydraulic conditions while incorporating current engineering standards and environmental protections, including safeguarding a significant adjacent tree and the surrounding Yankalilla River corridor, and the contractor must maintain access for affected landowners, emergency services and other road users throughout construction.

This could be ideal for experienced bridge or civil contractors with capability in reinforced concrete single-span bridges, bored pile foundations, scour protection and rural traffic/access management. Key considerations include demolition/removal of the existing timber bridge, maintaining continuous access for residents and emergency services during works, protecting the significant adjacent tree and river corridor, and meeting current engineering and environmental standards.
