The project involved the demolition and removal of the existing single-span timber bridge and the construction of a new single-span reinforced concrete bridge, including reinforced concrete abutments on bored pile foundations, approach roadworks, bridge barriers, warning signage, scour protection, and associated ancillary works.

The new bridge was designed to safely accommodate unrestricted heavy vehicle loads, including agricultural freight vehicles, and to maintain the existing road alignment and river hydraulic conditions while incorporating current engineering standards and environmental considerations, such as the protection of a significant adjacent tree and the surrounding Yankalilla River corridor.
