Grains Research and Development Corporation awarded a contract to Tarwonga Pty Ltd for a second season of data collection and validation to test whether relationships between biomass, yield stability and grain realisation were repeatable across different seasonal conditions and a broader range of environments.

The work repeated trials at similar location types using the same varieties and nitrogen structure to better define environmental thresholds for efficient biomass conversion and to assess the value of drone-derived imagery for interpreting yield stability and grain realisation.

The validation series leveraged existing trials, including DPIRD trials, at three locations: low rainfall (Tarin Rock) — 4 nitrogen rates, 1 time of sowing (TOS), 3 varieties (48 plots); medium rainfall (Narrogin) — 4 nitrogen rates, 1 TOS, 3 varieties (48 plots); and high rainfall (West Dale) — 4 nitrogen rates, 2 TOS, 3 varieties (96 plots).
